Selous Game Reserve (Nyerere National Park)

Nyerere National Park, formerly part of the Selous Game Reserve, is Africa’s largest protected wildlife area and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Covering an immense and diverse landscape, the park features savannahs, woodlands, wetlands, and the mighty Rufiji River.

The river system defines the park’s ecosystem and supports a remarkable variety of wildlife. Elephants, lions, leopards, wild dogs, hippos, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife thrive in this vast environment, creating excellent year-round safari opportunities.

One of Nyerere’s greatest highlights is the variety of safari activities available. In addition to traditional game drives, visitors can enjoy boat safaris and walking safaris, offering unique perspectives and a deeper connection to the natural surroundings.

With fewer visitors than the Northern Circuit parks, Nyerere National Park offers a relaxed and uncrowded safari experience. It is an excellent choice for travelers combining a safari adventure with a Zanzibar beach holiday, thanks to easy fly-in access.
